If you have an unfinished basement start at step #1 if not go to step #3.

Step 1: If you have an unfinished basement locate the place where it squeaks and run a bead of construction adhesive along the sub-floor and the joist nearest on both sides as indicated in photo #1.

Step 2: Coat the shims liberally on both sides with the adhesive and if you find gaps in the vicinity of the squeak between the sub-floor and the floor joists press the shims into the gaps and give a slight tap with a hammer as indicated in photo #2.

Step 3. Go to the floor surface and use the StudSensor™ Pro with Deep Scan® mode to locate the floor joists under the hardwood and sub-floor If you're dealing with stairs find the edges of the two stringers. Lightly mark the position of the floor joist with the water soluble marker which won't scratch your floor as indicate in photo #3.

Step 4: Use a power drill and drill a hole with a 7/64" or 2.7mm bit to a depth of 13/4"through the hardwood, sub-floor and into the floor joist. Photo #4

Step 5: Use the hypodermic syringe fill it with glue that has been supplied with the kit Cut the very tip off and firmly press the sharp end into the hole. Inject at least half the glue into the hole if you can which will ooze out between any gaps between the sub-floor and the floor joist. Photo#5. You don't want the glue to ooze onto the surface if your floor.

Step 6: Use the Counter Snap™ fixture and position it over the pre-drilled hole and slide a scoured screw into the barrel of the fixture on into the pilot hole. With the # 2 square recess driver bit drive the screw home. It will snap off 1/8" below the surface of the hardwood.

Step 7: Mix some putty colors to match the floor and fill the small hole. Clean area with some Bona X cleaner.
