How to keep your Hardwood Floors looking great:

Jac's answer to "how to keep your floors clean and shiny

and how to protect your floors from scuffs and scatches."

I am going to assume that you have a wood floor with a polyurethane/urethane or some type of acid cure finish, and not wax, and that the finish on your floors has a shine to it and you want to maintain that shine and beauty. If that is the case the floor cleaner that I sell Bona X is most probably one of the best on the market, but if your floor finish has lost that shine through wear no cleaner on the market can restore it. Now there are some products that claim to do that but it is on very temporary basis. Don't use any products with oils or waxes in them to try to restore a shine it will damage the polyurethane /urethane or acid cure finish. If your floors use to have a nice shine to them and are dull now but have no spots where the finish is worn down to the bare wood then you can have your floor screened/buffed to upbraid the finish and coat the floor with a coat of finish similar to what was originally applied, and that will restore the shine. This process is quite simply but must be done right. Then use my cleaner to cut any dirt and maintain the shine. Always add a few drops of a bonding agent to the finish you are going to apply so it will adhere properly to the original finish. However if you have used any oils or waxes in your floors then the process I have just described will not work, the new coat will leave what we call in the industry "fisheyes" all over the floor. Then you will need to go to the next process of sanding and refinishing your hardwood floors.

To protect from scuffs and scratches:

1. All finishes are susceptible to scuffs and scratches, however some finishes are harder than others.

2. Always place area rugs in strategic places on your floors e.g. at the entrances to your house,
in front of the kitchen sink, and any high traffic area like a hallway and under a dining room table.

3. Always protect your floors from all furniture on the hardwood floors with Jacwood floor pad protectors.
They are self-adhesive and all you need to do is peel and stick. Plastic glides don't work to protect your floors.

4. Don't drag or slide furniture over your floors, lift the furniture and set it down.

5. If you have dogs, keep their nails trimmed and don't get them excited on your hardwoods.
